What are the program dates for YYGS-Beijing?

The YYGS-Beijing program will run from February 3-11, 2017.

Who can apply to YYGS-Beijing?

We accept and encourage students of all nationalities to apply to the program, so long as they are between the ages of 15 and 17 at the time of application, are a high school sophomore (US: Grade 10, China: 高一) or junior (US: Grade 11, China:  高二) at the time of the program, demonstrate strong personal and/or academic interest in China-World relations, and have a strong command of the English language.

What are the application requirements for YYGS-Beijing?

What does it mean to have strong personal and/or academic interest in China-World relations?

For Chinese students, this can mean an interest in China’s role on the larger world stage, academic study of non-Chinese cultures, languages, and history, and time spent living or studying out of country. For non-Chinese students, this can include study of Mandarin or another Chinese dialect, travel or familial heritage in China, and study of Chinese culture, history, or society.

Do I really need to take the TOEFL?

The TOEFL is NOT a requirement to apply for YYGS-Beijing. However, for International students attending school OUTSIDE the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, or Singapore, we strongly recommend submitting at least one English proficiency test score such as the TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS. Are any test scores required? Is there a minimum requirement for test scores?

No official tests are required, although we encourage you to submit any scores that you may have. In addition, we don’t require a minimum score for any tests you have taken.

I will be in grade 9 during the time of the program. Will I be able to participate in YYGS-Beijing?

Unfortunately, this program is only open to students in Grades 10 and 11, or their international equivalents. But we very much encourage you to apply next year!

How do I upload my transcript?

On the Education Page of your application, please upload an unofficial copy of your school transcript listing grades for all courses completed for the last two years. If selected for admission to the program, we will ask you to submit your official school transcript for verification.

How many years do you want for my transcript?

All applicants must submit a transcript from his or her current school. If you have been enrolled in your current school for less than one year, we request that you also submit a transcript from your previous school.

Are scholarships provided?

Yes! The YYGS-Beijing program offers generous scholarship aid to students who demonstrate financial need. Students are automatically considered for full-tuition scholarships and travel grants by completing the “Scholarship” section of the application form.

If I apply to YYGS-Beijing, can I still apply to YYGS at Yale University in New Haven?

Yes! In fact, YYGS-Beijing can provide you with some of the skills, experience, and knowledge that may improve your chances of acceptance to YYGS. We highly encourage YYGS-Beijing participants who want to continue their engagement with the YYGS community to apply for the program at Yale University in New Haven, if you are still eligible.
